Did you know that Makoto Shinkai's animated romantic fantasy drama Your Name ( Kimi no Na wa in Hepburn) is one of the most successful films of all time? The 2016 anime film is about a girl and a boy who magically and accidentally switched bodies, then later realizing their timelines were separated by three years. Its good animation and the emotional impact of its story flow were noticed by critics and people soon flocked to the cinemas, and the film became a hit. According to the website of Hollywood Reporter, the film grossed more than $355million, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, the seventh-highest-grossing Japanese animated film in the world, and the ninth-highest-grossing, non-English film worldwide. With those numbers, it boosted the performance of the anime industry, which logged a recorded $17.7billion revenue in 2017. The film and some of the key people that helped create it received a total of 14 awards and many more nominations from 2016 to 2018, including an Arigato Award for Shinkai at the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival, the Excellent Animation of the Year Award at the 40th Japan Academy Prize, and the Best Animated Film at the 71st Mainichi Film Awards.
